EDUC 525 Unit 8: Cognitive Theories of Learning 3 (Application to Gap Analysis)
Introduction
The primary causes of performance gaps include knowledge and skills and their application in organizations and across systems. This unit focuses on the role that knowledge plays in developing expertise. The purpose of this unit is to understand and apply research about different types of knowledge to understanding the gaps in your stakeholder goal achievement.
Learning Objectives For This Unit
Differentiate between different types of knowledge (e.g., the difference between “knowing” and “using” knowledge)
Describe how to identify and validate the knowledge causes of achievement gaps
Apply the concepts of the class to identify and diagnose causes of knowledge gaps in your organizational setting
Propose solutions to knowledge problems based on learning theory principles and other research-based resources
Learning Strategies For This Unit
Complete the readings in the order listed in the syllabus, writing down one or two sentences that synthesize the major ideas.
As you read about knowledge types, take notes about the types of knowledge your stakeholder needs in order to demonstrate the proficiency outlined in your stakeholder goal
In-class Practice and Feedback
Work on individual gap analysis: Which assumed knowledge causes exist for your chosen intermediate goal? How would you assess these causes? What solution principles or research-based solutions would you apply?
